This is the site for information about some of the many musical projects of Johann Helton. Jo-Town Records/Goddess Sound Productions includes a project studio, a rehearsal site, and a teaching studio all located - best of all - in my home in a beautiful, older neighborhood of Boise, Idaho.
I have been a resident of Boise for 15 years. After hanging in there as a performer for all these years, my phone now rings a lot! In the past few years I have been called to play for: Luciano Pavarotti, Opera Idaho, The Darkwood Consort and The Boise Philharmonic. Last winter I served as Music Director for a staging of 'The Cherry Orchard' by Chekhov at the Boise Contemporary Theater directed by Michael Hoffman of Hollywood movie fame ('Soapdish', 'Restoration', etc.). And last summer with the Highwaymen we taped a special for PBS with such performers as Jim McGuinn, the Smothers Brothers, and Judy Collins. The show is available through Amazon.com on CD, DVD and VHS. Over the past dozen years I have been averaging around 125 paying engagements a year, which includes weddings, festivals, restaurants and galleries. I'm a busy guy!

There are a number of projects in progress currently, which is typical around here. The Original Highwaymen, those folkies of 'Michael, Row The Boat Ashore' fame, with whom I've been playing for a decade or so, released their first new album in more than 30 years last summer - and plan to gather here in August record an album of Irish music. In addition to playing upright bass, I got a mastering credit on the album. The Often Ensemble's new album, 'Mosaic', was released in the Spring of '02 to mark 30 years of making music together. The album features the flute and saxophones of Chalazon Clark, the fabulous drumming of Lawson Hill, with the rest of the sounds (guitars, basses and keys) handled by me. The long-awaited and much-anticipated solo album by Rifka Helton is due to start tracking this Fall. And The New Galactic Wombats are making preparations for an album of 'out there' explorations of original music. Again, there's more! Write if you want details!

At some point, I will have audio samples available so you can hear what I'm talking about. In the meantime, you can find two of my albums available online at Rocky Mountain Acoustic Music Association (check the links) and CDBaby. You can also find audio examples from all of my albums at my OTHER site: http://home.rmci.net/jomoonbeam. If you're daring and want to take the plunge, you can order all GSP albums directly from me. Titles iclude: 'Where Mountains End And Clouds Begin' by Johann Helton; 'Mosaic' and 'Goddess Country' by The Often Ensemble; and 'Most of the Mysteries' by The Warrior Poets. I can also send you copies of 'In Concert' by The Highwaymen. Cd's are all $15 (or two for $25) plus $2 for shipping. Email me...
